Refacing Your Kitchen - Cheap Budget Kitchen Remodeling

If you are on a budget, than remodeling your kitchen is usually the last item on the to-do list for your bachelor pad remodeling.  Even a small kitchen can run you close to ten thousand dollars to rip it out and replace with new cabinets and appliance.  Finding good contractors is always a chore too.  

Don't Replace, Reface!

Well, the latest in kitchen remodeling is now "Refacing".  As long as you're cabinet boxes are in good shape and somewhat level, you can reface the mica on your cabinets and purchase all new doors and then apply crown molding.  Many kitchen remodeling specialist are offering this service.  You can go to your local home depot to see them offering it too.  

DO NOT let them talk you into new cabinets as that is usually the goal of the contractor.  They will tell you that refacing your cabinets will not be the way to go.  In our experience, as long as your boxes are not warped and/or falling apart, you can reface them.

In refacing, mica is cut out and glues to the outer layer of the box to give it a new appearance.  New doors are put on and then the crown molding is added.  You can even add light rails to give it a really modern appearance.  We highly recommend the crown molding as it hides flaws and allows for plants up top.

If you decided to add a pantry or another set of cabinets, you can easily have the contractor build the box and then face it in the mica you choose for the rest of your kitchen.

The drawers that hold your utensils and silverware can be totally replaced along with the rails.

You can expect to pay half of what you would normally pay for a new kitchen when refacing.   If you are handy, you can even buy the mica sheets and reface your kitchen yourself.  Do a Google search on refacing techniques and see if it is something you can handle.
