If you have a bachelor pad, than your TV setup is very important. A normal tube TV is ok if you are on a serious budget, but going the extra mile and showing off with a surround sound system is the way to go.
For a recent bachelor pad makeover, we went with t a z-line stand from circuit city. This stand has 3 shelves and is very compact for a small area. The stand holds up to a 46 inch TV, however we went with a 40 inch 1080p LCD by Sony. We recommend you only purchase a 1080p LCD, as the prices have coming down significantly and you will be ready for when you wan to step up to Bluray or HD. For the cable subscription in this bachelor pad we went with Comcast, as the house already had a line for it. Comcast HD offers more HD channels and comes with an HD DVR box. The DVR features are awesome, as you can record multiple shows at the same time. We think this is better than TIVO and the box is usually free at Comcast and not much more per month expense associated with it. For DVD, we went with OPPO DVD Player that up converts DVD’s to a bit higher resolution. It is not HD, but for the price it is an excellent DVD player. It also plays DIVX, which is essential if you are a download and burn junkie. For the 5.1 speakers we went with KEF. These speakers are egg shaped to give it bachelor pad styling and sound extremely well for the money. You can get these speakers on eBay at a fraction of the price, or go to Circuit City. The speakers do not come with stands however, they can be wall mounted very easily. We are using a Yamaha receive to power all the sound. The receiver allows for 7.1 audio, however we are only running 5.1 since this is a small space. You will find there is a calibration tool that comes with a mic for easy calibration of your system to your room.
